I purchased this receiver eight months ago. I have owned many other Sony receivers going back to 1977. First of all, the sound and build quality is outstanding! Overall setup can be a little confusing due to the "clunky" on-screen menu interface. Onkyo has a much better interface. Needless to say, I am a hard core Sony customer as I own many other products such as camcorders and digital cameras and lenses. The remote control for this unit is lackluster at best. There are numerous feature/function keys that are sorely missing that other less expensive Sony receivers seam to offer. This really doesn't make much sense. For example, why aren't bass, treble and balance controls available on the remote and on the front panel? There are too many steps involved to access these vital settings. When you are able to find them, you cannot adjust them and listen to the music at the same time. So in order to adjust them, you have to continually jump back and forth from the setting to the the actual music being played. Will you be offering a more complete or a more extensive feature rich remote control for this model? Another missing feature is a more robust display panel featuring music track information when streaming. Again, Onkyo offers this feature on their less expensive units.

I explicitly purchased this to send Bluetooth to my outdoor speaker (h.ear go) and simultaneously use the main indoor 5.1 speakers. This is not possible. Therefore, the Bluetooth transmitter is worthless for me. Also, the Chromecast function randomly disconnects even though my router is very near the receiver.

This is my third Sony A/V Receiver in the last decade, and the least reliable. Audio sync issues, freezing during power ups, and no video glitches have plagued this purchase from the start. Even after two in-warranty repair attempts, the system randomly fails to start and requires a power reset to get going again. Unfortunately, the warranty doesn't offer replacement, only repair, which is lackluster, being returned in cosmetically damaged condition. After a year of trying to get this working as it should, I'm still stuck wondering if my next game or movie experience will be as intended. Firmware updates thus far have not solved these problems. If your unit actually works, then you're in for a treat. Being that this is a known issue with other users, my hope is that an update will bring out this receiver's intended performance.

I bought this item and Sony speaker system. I have a very loud popping sound when changing channels and during commercial breaks. I contacted support and they said this receiver has a relay inside that causes this when sound format changes. This can't be fixed. Always scares everyone when it pops. Don't buy this item. I regret buying it.

I love the features but worried about power by itself & sometimes a loud clunk sound when I power it up

I love Sony products and have been a Sony customer for over 50 years. This receiver is a great product but the documentation is somewhat lacking. I have ended up calling Sony multiple times to complete setup. FYI fast setup is great as long as you do not have any issues. Resolution documentation is mostly online and can be contradictory and confusing.,

Overall, it's a great receiver, but: No video on USB output. Had I known that, I would not have purchased the receiver. The equalizer does not select individual speakers, or change individual frequencies. The remote control has a weak signal, and has be aimed mainly at the receiver, very annoying.

Had another brands AVR that basically would only work with their proprietary app.i returned and decided to buy a Sony that would work with my Bravia 4K Android TV. Set-up was seamless from the internet to the speakers.

I love it great sound, that being said this isn’t easy to set up with surround sound. It taxed my knowledge of electronics. Had trouble getting the rear speakers to work, the manual “ novel “ isn’t that clear to fallow. It took nearly 2 weeks to get it working the way I wanted. However now is working and sounding the way I want I’m in love with it.

Love it and have only scratched the surface of all my receiver can do!
