Knives were only washed with a non-abrasive soap sponge, regular Dawn dish soap and water. Within 3-4 uses they started to show spots of rust. We discontinued use of these knives as we worried that the compromised finish would end up in our food.
These knives are of good quality but thought they would be a little sharper.
I gave these to my brothers and then bought them for myself.
The package arrived intact with a slight ding in the external packaging. No big deal, as the internal packaging was perfectly intact. Upon opening, however, one of the knives had become unmoored from it's protective foam bedding. Still, after inspecting them all, there is no damage to report from shipping. That night, I cooked up a steak from a local farmers market vendor--Pittsburgh-rare, just the way I like! Upon taking these new Carbon-6 steak knives to task, they immediately feel "lacking". While certainly balanced individually, the handles feel hollow (let's face it, they are) and that gives the impression that these knives are blade-heavy. The last thing anyone at the picnic table wants to experience is a knife falling blade-side-down toward their feet. But with these knives, that is what is most likely to happen. The non-serrated blade is a godsend for those who love to sharpen their own knives. (A stone, a steel and a strop will keep these sharp for every single use!) But if a set of steak-knives--a luxury purchase, to be sure--don't feel magnificent in your hand, then what's the point? Make these dinner-service blades full-tang, and with a bit of heft... and you'll have me as a customer forever. For now, however, they're just... okay. The look is sexy, the feel is not.
The knives are sharp and easy to handle. Unfortunately when they arrived they were all jumbled up in their box. This led to some scratches in the dark finish of the handles.
This is the 3rd set that I have added to my collection. I love the rustic look and they are very durable!
