This lens is perfect for the S9, and any body where you want a light but competent lens. It represents a new lens class that is missing from L mount. AF is fast, IQ is good. F2 is fast-ish, a happy tradeoff to keep it small. The way I shoot I don't use the extra controls on the lens, but many users will enjoy a free open button and an AF/MF switch, especially on the S9. The 144g weight plus quality of this lens makes it like a micro four thirds lens experience which is groundbreaking for full frame. On the S9 this is nearly the same footprint as my GX9 + 20mm f1.7. I don't miss a lens hood and work around it rather than be saddled with it. At this price point you might normally expect a hood, but I don't for a pancake. This is a missing class of lens that L mount needs, particularly for lightweight bodies, travel, street, etc..., a compact line of polymer based F2 primes. Sigma offers the Contemporary line that includes F2's. It is compact but the all metal construction results in weights of 370g+ each, all of them heavier than the Pan 20-60mm kit zoom. Panasonic's polymer is not cheap feeling and high quality, they should lean into that and expand the 40mm into a compact F2 prime line with entries like: 20mm, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 85mm all targeted into a 140g-220g range and optimized to be small, light, and useful like this 40mm. Very pleased with my purchase.

Great to see now the lens are much lighter and easier to carry. F2 vs F1.8 not much difference, especially when the weight reduction is huge. Just one complaint that it should come with some lens hood. Or Panasonic should sell the lens hood separately. Any 62mm lens hood works which is good.

Purchased this lens with LUMIX S9 instead of the compact zoom offered as it has a faster max aperture which provides better bokeh for portraits. Does not come with hood but flare seems to be minimal. Results are sharp and minimal distortion

Awesome lens, very good with the S5D, making the combo very small and less heavy. Good lens for street photography.

Bought this lens for my S9 and couldn't be happier. It takes amazing photos in spite of being so compact. It also has relatively good autofocus although I still use manual focus when trying to really nail a specific focus point or when im shooting burst. I couldn't be happier with this lens, zero regrets.

Great to have a small prime at 40mm which is my favourite walk about focus length, snappy to focus. Bit tight to get on an off though.

This lens goes very well with my Lumix S9, as it is so small and light. I'm very pleased with the autofocus and the images it takes.

Neat lightweight lens that makes the S5M2 a good street and travel camera. Whilst I like the 20-60 zoom as a 'standard' lens, the 40mm has a much better size and weight, though you need to move around to get the shot you want, rather than twist the zoom ring. 40mm is a very natural focal length and shows little distortion, whilst f2 is plenty fast enough as well as creating good separation of subject from background when opened up.

Makes my S1RII a viable everyday carry, especially with weatherproofing.
