Perfect for short day hikes. Enough space for rain jacket, personal items (wallet, snack, sunscreen, insect repellant, etc.), plus the outer zippered pocket is exactly the right size for my binoculars. Side mesh pockets are a little on the snug side, but a 750 ml Camelbak bottle fits & can be strapped in.

Great for day trip hiking. Holds rain poncho, water bottle, snacks and more! Easy to fit and carry and very comfortable!

The size is nice for carrying around the basics. But no internal clip for keys? No interior zip pouch / pocket either, although there is a tablet sized (not cushioned) sleeve pocket. Consider the main pocket a basic stuff-sack. Front exterior pocket is roomier than expected but the vertical zipper means items can fall out when you open it while upright.

Not expected quality of a North Face backpack. Cheap zippers, single stitching on parts of the backpack you'd expect double. I don't expect this to hold up to daily use, and returned it.

This is the perfect backpack for me. I'm 75 years old and 5'2" and the bigger bags are just too heavy for my shoulders. This bag fits everything I need for a day hike or a trip on an airplane. I like the purple color not only for the color but because I feel like that I can set it down and not worry about dirt showing. Even though it is a small size, it looks just like any adult size backpack, just smaller. If you're going on an airplane, it fits your iPad and everything you would need to have on the plane or if your luggage got lost for a day or two. I'm talking just underwear, socks and tee shirts, not whole outfits and shoes. It has slots for two water bottles which is very handy hiking or on an airplane. It has everything the larger size has, just shrunk down a little. The lesser weight on my back and shoulders is a big consideration for me. So if you're petite or not, older or not, or just want a smaller full featured backpack, this is the one for you!

The backpack is very small, but it's perfect for the essentials and so lightweight. I use it when I go on short hikes and I'm able to fit my hat, glasses, snack, water, phone, sunscreen, chapstick, wallet, keys, etc. I like that it has a small electronics sleeve and fits my MacBook or my iPad and the front pocket has a vertical side zipper which I like for easy access to quick things. Great size for essentials.

Hoping to use for vacation travel without having a large backpack

Travel purse/bag and purse/diaper bag. Fits all my stuff and hers! Love this thing. Comfy and durable.
