First, when I say it fits "true to size", I'm comparing it to Altra shoes only. I wear 7 in Altras, but 6.5 in other brands. So far, I'm pleased with this new version of the Escalante. The fit in the heel and midfoot is better than the Esc4, while keeping the wide toe box and overall ease and comfort. The laces are better too...I had to replace the laces in my three pairs of the Esc4 as the originals were slippery and wouldn't stay tied. The weird loop on the top of the tongue isn't as bad as it looks in the photos. I'm not sure why they made it so large, but it's OK. I've put less than 20 miles on these at this point, but they seem to be a tiny bit more supportive from toe to heel. The tread is different, so I'm hoping it holds up better than previous versions.

These wide toe-box, 0mm heel-to-toe drop shoes are one half-size larger than my most common size (I historically wear a 7.5- 8.0 depending on the brand). I chose an 8.5 in these, so I have one thumb's width at the end of the shoe. These are super light, appropriately supportive, and my first step in changing all of my shoes to wide toe-box shoes to protect the health of my feet.
I need a wide toe box and these are good for neuromas and hammer toes!
Because of problems with my feet I’m always searching for comfortable shoes. So happy to say I was not disappointed. It’s nice when you haven’t wasted money.
Love the light weight shoe and wide toe box! Love the brown bottom paired with the white shoe. It’s comfortable for all day wear and looks great with my athleisure wardrobe.
