It's a bit sheer but it does look really nice on especially from the front. I wear an 8 and ordered it in a medium, which fits perfectly. The shirring is very subtle and causes the dress to hug the waist and hips, but not too tightly, which looks great from the front and back. From the side though, you can definitely see the outline of your lower stomach, which you can't see on the model because she doesn't really have one and even if she did, they're not giving you a full side-view only a 3/4 view. This tummy-outline is due to the sheerness of the dress, which is so lightweight (there is no structure to it at all) that it just molds itself around any bumps. This would probably be solved with panty hose but if your tummy isn't completely flat it's definitely visible in this dress (no where to hide). If you look at the photo of the blue dress (I ordered it in black) you can see what I mean--you can actually see the outline of the model's right hip bone on the side view.

The fit was perfect. As stated in other reviews, the material is quite thin (almost sheer) and so every curve and bulge will be visible. I wore stockings, and without the ruching, the seams in the waistline probably would have been visible. The one thing I had a problem with was the finished edges along the hem and sleeves. They're not sewn, but rather held together with some sort of adhesive? The edges are cut and not folded. At first I thought it was a defect, so I ordered the blue one as well. It was the same, so I guess that's the way it was intended. Definitely keeping the black one, still trying to decide if I like the blue one enough to keep. The blue color is as described, marine, and not more of the royal that I had been hoping for. Both were ordered in XS.
Update - kept the black dress, returning the blue. The previous reviewer was correct that the blue version of this dress is unforgiving. It shows every unflattering aspect. The black one is perfect.
