Because it has a double-sided support structure, it definitely feels like it stabilizes lateral movement better than a splint that supports only one side. Being made of aluminum, it is lightweight yet sturdy, so it easily achieved its primary goal of preventing the finger from bending. It acted as a shield, preventing the injured finger from suddenly snapping during light daily tasks or computer typing.
