Staub Tools 12" Risotto Spoon

I have been making risotto for years. As a home cook, I have tried many methods and techniques. I finally decided it was time to up my risotto game and get the proper pan for making risotto. I purchased a 3 quart saucier, and to take advantage of the rounded sides I added the Staub Risotto Spoon. I thought, what difference could a spoon make? A HUGE difference! Stirring with the Risotto Spoon in a saucier is next level. It clears the sides and stirs without effort. I can see and taste a difference. It's also very nice looking. I keep adding to my Staub kitchen tool collection. They are made to perform their intended task and look good doing it!

I have, for years, used a wooden risotto spoon. Was in search of a new/replacement for the old one and saw the Staub version. Because I have used and like Staub pots and pans, I decided to give this one a try. So far, after two uses, it seems to be working well. What I want to suggest is a narrower version for use in smaller pots/pans.

Head is a bit smaller than I thought but rice does not stick onto the spoon which makes making fried rice so convenient.

The first thing you'll notice about the Staub collection of utensils is the gorgeous Acacia wood handles. They are rounded, smooth and gorgeous and moisture repellent unlike wood handles on lesser quality utensils that can be rough and uncomfortable to hold. The dark silicone portion on each utensil has a long neck running up the handle to keep the wood from the wood handle although they clean up perfectly either way. Risotto is one of those special dishes that needs to be stirred constantly to get that creamy texture and this spoon does the job perfectly The hole in the center allows the ingredients to pass through the middle as well as around the paddle of the spatula. The edges allow you to scrape the bottom to keep any of the risotto from burning. This spoon is perfect for your Staub cocottes but is easy on any of your cookware including your nonstick pots and pans.

Making risotto takes time, patience and great tools really help. This "slotted" spoon allows you to constantly stir the rice without breaking the grains. This step is important to developing flavors. The beautiful silicone is durable and heat resistant; perfect for being kept in a hot pan for an extended period of time. The beautiful wood grain handle is unique and feels like an heirloom quality piece.

My daughter loves to cook risotto for me, she has a gift to cook and that is why I have bought this for her. She did enjoy using it and she guarantees it is perfect for the job. It is so easy to maneuver, broth/liquid flows through the hole, grains doesn't accumulate in the middle, makes it easier to stir through ingredients. This is also an excellent tool in cooking rice and what a great product with a non-stick tip a quick-release food, combined with a beautiful acacia wood handle. It is handwashing only.
