The sale price motivated my decision. This does work based on the premise that the tougher stalk ends boil gently while the top 2/3s of the stalk steam. And you can use it for corn and carrots. The two downsides are the lid doesn't stay flat unless you really cut off much of the vegetables and you need pot holders for the basket and the handles (and the lid).
Nice steamer. Was hoping for an inch or more height. Width ok, narrower keeps more stalks upright, easy to lift basket. Asparagus steamers don't take up much space and free up saucepans etc for simultaneous cooking. Outside finish is 4 stars.
