I got this backpack for my 5th grader in purple and she loved it. Except all she could fit in there was like 3 notebooks, 2 library books, 1 pencil pouch, and 1 folder and it was still extremely hard to get it out during class. And, also she normally doesn't bring a water bottle and there is already a huge hole in the side pocket.
Got this exact backpack in the mens version for our grade school son. It only lasted a few months. The mesh sides developed holes in from normal use - holding his water bottle.
Based on historical great quality and durability, I would have expected better interior craftsmanship on the stitches/hems/pockets. The seams have ripped after 1yr and expected longer use for price.
I've used this consistently for sports, dance, and school every year for 10 years. This thing holds up.
This is going to work out nice for my 6th grade daughter's daily backpack for school
Works for a school backpack
Good looking bag pack, made with good quality materials.
I purchased the Recon backpack for my son for 7th grade. It lasted about 3 months, but then the strap completely tore off. Tried to get it repaired by North Face since they say they have a 1-year warranty. However, the fine print is North Face doesn't provided shipping nor do they provided return tracking numbers. Everything is based on printing a form and you may or may not get the item repaired. Bottom line is this backpack most likely won't last a year for anyone and North Face won't stand behind the product, so I don't recommend this one.
Like the reviewer above me, my strap broke, but only after a month! I was on my way to work with a laptop, cell phone and not much else and it just broke. I thought North face products were reliable, but this is very disappointing. And since I didnt' buy it at north face I can't bring it back to a north face store to have it serviced. Instead I have to ship it back at my expense.
