Audio-Technica ATH-M40x Wired Professional Monitor Closed-Back Over-Ear Headphones

Absolutely unbeatable pair of headphones. I've gotten thousands of hours of use out of them for all applications and I couldn't recommend them enough. Excellent sound quality, unbelievable durability and construction quality. I use them at my computer at home daily and I've also traveled around the world with them, just fold them up and detach the cord and they can endure any journey in a backpack or luggage. The only downside I could think of is that the vinyl coating on the head pad and ear pads will eventually flake off. My headphones have gone through 3 or 4 sets of ear pads over the years but I will happily buy more.

I first bought the Mx50s in white like 5 or 6 years ago, they lasted me a SUPER long time, absolute favorite headphones. The cord recently broke into pieces and I opted to get whole new headphones instead of replacing just the cord and I am actually a bit disappointed. They don't feel anything like the white ones did, The earpads on the black ones feel very poorly made, they are hard and stiff and not comfortable for long use. I wish the Mx50s had velvet/soft pads but they do not. These are also not Piercing friendly. My white pair has bigger cups than these ones. So the cups appear to be smaller. Just a fair warning for those planning to wear for a long time they will apply loads of pressure to your ears.

I used these as my daily PC headphones for listening to music, composing, gaming, etc. they worked well and were comfortable until the joint broke. The section that needs to withstand a lot of strain should be reinforced with metal; it doesn't make sense to only have a thin plastic joint there as they will inevitably break long before the electronic components fail, even without significant wear. With a very minor design modification, these headphones could have lasted many years longer.

On the one hand, these seem like quality headphones. They sound comparable to other sets in $300-$400 range and feel sturdy. None of that out-of-the-box wiggle room I've seen elsewhere. And detachable cables are a must anymore. On the other hand, I was in the market for a pair of headphones with a 3.5mm jack and I went with the M50x because the specifications on their own page said the connector was 3.5mm. It is not. The M50x uses a 2.5mm jack and comes with a cable with a 3.5mm end. If I'd been looking for good headphones with a non-3.5mm connector I'd have gone with something from Beyerdynamic. So I'm taking 2-3 stars off for audio-technica either not knowing their own products or choosing to leave misleading information up on their site.

These headphones will probably last forever because nobody will be able to stand the head squeeze very long and these will take up space in a heap somewhere. I'm going to apologize for not thanking my friend better last year. I didn't understand why I didn't like them… until today. NOW I KNOW WHY I DONT USE THEM! Now I'll dig out my old ones and put these in my donation pile.

It is a good start for someone who is looking for a beginner headphones and it is very good for DJing. The earpads and clamp force do become uncomfortable after a while of using it, especially if you are like me who wears glasses.

I have used these for music production, video editing, and day to day listening. Very solid choice for anyone looking to get into the world of flagship audio headphones. A couple setbacks in terms of sound would be the limit on how much you can push lossless through a built-in DAC within a laptop (for example.. any MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon).

I have used these headphones for about 3 years now and they have served me greatly, the quality and design makes it easy to use and useful to hear specific ranges. The only issue i had with it is after heavy use after 3 years there has become a slight rattling in the right ear when listening to low frequencies. Could be because I like to push audio to its limits and i damaged the speaker. Overall, it is a very good pair of headphones and i recommend anyone who have a low budget.

I had been a loyal user of another pair of headphones out of Nihon and for some reasons both known and unknown to me the durability wasn't like I had come to know and in almost no time flat that other pair of headphones started to fall apart plus those headphones weren't as loud as I had known those headphones to be. I bought these and I must say I am not disappointed and after some time of having them Audio Technica M50x are not falling apart nor will I get up and yank the connection loose. I can tell some thinking was done before manufacturing these. Thanks so much I can use my KORG Kronos and feel the music once again

I would love a product with a similar price but wireless. The closest model ATH-M20xBT, is M20... not as much quality. But overall these are one best price value products I could find on the market
