Levi's Men's 511 Slim-Fit Jeans

These fell apart after 3 months. Not sure what happened to Levi's but the quality is so poor these days.

I bought two 511 slim fit corduroy pants (same size, just different colour)- 1 fit but 1 doesn't. POOR QUALITY CONTROL!!!!!

belt loop popped/tore off second time i wore them, from me just threading a belt through it.

Haven't worn a pair of Levi cords since High School. Look and feel just like they did way back then. Love 'em.

From what I can tell, there are three major types of the Levi’s 511 Corduroy, distinguishable by the composition of the fabric: Type A – 98% Cotton, 2% Elastane Type B – 67% Cotton, 33% Polyester Type C – 84% Cotton, 14% Polyester, 2% Elastane Type C includes the current generation of pants as well as the last one or two generations (including unavailable colors like yellow, forest green, sundried tomato). I am not sure whether Type A or Type B came first, but I would guess that Type A is what people are thinking of when they talk about “the classic” corduroy. In addition to the difference in composition, Type A pants have wider wales/cords, horizontal wales around the waistband (oddly), thicker belt loop straps, and a red “tab” on the right back pocket. Type A pants are extremely comfortable, perhaps due to that higher cotton content. Compared to Type A pants, the current Type C pants are a little less comfortable and have a somewhat stiffer, more synthetic feel. Type C pants also sort of do have that boxy look in the groin which some people may find annoying or unflattering. While both Type A and Type C have some stretch in the fabric of the legs, Type C pants have much more stretch in the waistband than the Type A pants (which essentially have no stretch in the waistband). For some this is an advantage, for others a disadvantage. As others have noted, there are some amounts of shrinkage, loosening, and fitting idiosyncrasies with 511 corduroy pants – I would say that this applies to any generation, new or old. Type A pants are more comfortable, perhaps more vulnerable to shrinking, and require a lot of breaking in. Type C pants are probably easier to fit into for many different body shapes and probably require less breaking in. Of course being the current generation, Type C pants are also much easier to find, and come in a variety of sizes and interesting colors. Regarding Type B pants: these seem to be a transition between Type A and Type C. This results in Type B pants having virtually none of the advantages of either Type A (fabric comfort) or Type C (fit comfort and variety), but also having the disadvantages of both. If the engineers at Levi’s are open to feedback on their next generation of 511 corduroys, I would recommend the following: Try to return to the level of comfort of the Type A pants, perhaps by increasing cotton content Increase the wale/cord width (again, emulating Type A) Use threading that is the same color (not thread that is a couple shades lighter) Decrease the stretch, albeit just very slightly Make sure the groin area doesn’t get that unflattering boxy look Overall, I am very satisfied with the Levi’s 511 corduroys. They are, for many reasons, my favorite pants. I have a dress blue and a tan Type A, as well as a gray Type B. From Type C, I have nightwatch blue, sundried tomato (unavailable at time of writing), and forest green (unavailable at time of writing).
