Having used several mandolines in the past, including a very sharp hand-held OXO, I can say with confidence that this is by far the most sturdy, sharp and SAFE of them all. I tend to be heavy handed without realizing it when using tools like this (often resulting in uneven slices or bent/broken tools). . . but I didn't have to with this guy because it handled sweet potatoes like they were butter. And I could tell from the pressure I did put on it that it would hold up even if I did put a little weight on it. Of course this is brand new, so I can't speak to the endurance of the sharp blade over time, but for now I am extremely pleased (as I most often am with OXO tools!).
I hoped this more beefy mandolin would be even better than the small hand held one I’ve been using for over a decade. Unfortunately the blade can’t compete with the hand held one. I’m trying the bigger hand held slicer.
It can barely cut a tomato and couldn’t julienne my carrots very well. For the price point I would expect a sharper blade. I’m not sure if it’s user error but it seems to cut cucumbers just fine. Other things it just mutilates. I was more excited for it when I first got it but now I’m disappointed in the performance.

The julienne and wavy blades are completely unsharpened sheet metal. A potato is stopped cold when trying to use either which is pretty scary when using a mandoline. Oxo sent me a warranty replacement which was every but as dull and useless.
