L'artiste shoes can be a bit difficult to fit -- not in terms of size but for me they often seem to rub somewhere weird on my foot, even though I love the design and colors for this brand. That said, I thought these shoes were a great fit. The medium width seems true (not wide or narrow) but that works for my foot, which I think is fairly average rather than being narrow or wide. The feel like a "platform" shoe. That is, the sole is fairly even (doesn't push your toes down into the toe of the shoe), but the entire sole is raised a couple of inches. The raised sole means they aren't great for walking on uneven terrain (over grass, say, or gravel), but they seem fine on the sidewalk and they don't rub anywhere for me. So I'd say fine for walking in town.
