Cap Vert

These Mephisto's run large. I normally wear a 9-9.5 US and the US size 8 fits perfectly with a thin sock. I buy a new pair of these about every two years as they cannot be resoled. These are my go-to shoes for running about. They are comfortable as hell and are so much better looking than tennis shoes or trainers. I have them in Rust and they go with jeans or khakis. The inside is fully lined so you can wear them sock-less in summer and they are very comfortable when worn this way. Attached is a picture of my two year old pair with a new one...

Comfortable but felt about a half size too big

I have been buying this shoe for years and this was my 12th pair. I have never worn as comfortable a shoe, certainly not one as stylish.

My wife bought a pair of these shoes for me years ago. Used them while traveling in Europe. Liked them so much I've replaced them many times. They wear like iron. They are extremely comfortable.

Mephisto makes fine shoes but more than a bit pricey. I have had several pairs of Cap Vert and been satisfied with their looks, fit, comfort and especially durability. They are very good boat shoes with conventional styling and are suitable for everyday wear as well as boating. I would buy other styles if they were more affordable.

I’ve had my eye on the Mephisto Cap Vert shoes for a while. I’ve been looking a stylish pair of brown shoes to wear with casual clothing. These did not disappoint. I have several things to comment on. • They are great looking shoes, feel very well made and are comfortable. I am super fussy, especially when spending this much money on a pair of casual shoes. • Right out of the box, they looked and felt a little stiff, but after a few hours of wearing them they have softened and now feel great and look terrific. • I am a size 9M or 9D in nearly every shoe I wear. I read all of the reviews, so I knew these shoes would be big, so I ordered an 8-1/2 instead. I put them on and there was too much slip in the heel. I could tell that as the shoes relaxed and softened, that they would get even bigger. So, I ordered another pair in a size 8. When I put them on, at first they were just a little snug, but I kept them on for a couple of hours. When they warmed up, they seemed to soften and fit around my foot much better. I’ve worn them for a couple hours at a time, two or three times this first week. They fit perfectly now the moment I put them on. I really like substantial, yet soft leather. (They weren’t soft when I got them but they are now.) • The insole is comfortable and provides firm support, however, for a shoe that is considered a comfort walking shoe, I am really surprised by the lack of arch support. I don’t think this will be a big issue for me, but more arch support would have been better. • Zappos was terrific. When the first pair of shoes I received were too large, I called Zappos and they overnighted a second pair to me. They allowed me to compare them side-by-side before I sent one pair back. They also provided a pre-paid shipping label. I packed them up and dropped them off at the local UPS store. Zappos always makes buying shoes online so easy! • I wish Zappos sold shoe polish to match the shoes that it sells! • I will be a return customer!

For me, too small. The next size up, unfortunately, has too much heel slip.

They feel very well made at first glance, but after wearing for a week I can’t endorse these shoes. After just a few wears, part of the upper is starting to come undone from the thread that holds the tongue to the sidewall of the shoe. The leather that has glued the insole down is also coming unglued after just a handful of wears. The sizing is also strange. These are UK sized, so I ordered my usual 9. I wear a 10.5 US in adidas sneaker. The right foot fits perfectly, but my left foot is smaller and the heel slip is pretty rough with that side. That’s on me and my weird anatomy.

Good quality

My experience with Mephisto shoes is that they are typically larger. I normally wear mens size 9. I initially ordered this shoe in a size 8 1/2. The shoe was still too large and I had to exchange the shoe for a size 8 that works. A full size less than my 9.
