I had a pair of these boots that lasted for years. They had 3 new rubber bottoms replaced. I need boots to garden in. I chose the L. L. Bean boots because I can get traction without collecting a plethora fo mud and dirt clods.
Once I got the size correct (sizing down 1.5 sizes), these worked well. Sometimes the tongue wants to not lay flat so it takes a little longer to put on, a minor issue, otherwise good.
Decent boot for 150$. To sum it quickly, it's a luxury walking boot that wears out quickly on cement , but readily slips on many other surfaces, with questionable interior comfort designs, but is still comfortable and versatile. The sole/bottom of the boot needs attention It's heavy, wears quickly, has a small footprint which greatly impacts stability, and slips on many surfaces quite easily. The interior of the boot needs some padding where the seams meet, little raw for a luxury boot The timeless classic needs to be introduced to 2026
I bought for my father and bought a size smaller as you suggested and he fell in love with them immediately. Loves them. Perfect for garden, rain, hunting. Anything.
The top portion of the boot was very uncomfortable, it dug into my leg.
I wear these boots when I'm out at the barn and riding my horses. They're very comfortable and stepping in mud or horse manure is not a problem. They are also narrow enough to fit in my English and Western stirrups and they have a heel for safety. I normally wear a size 9 shoe in 4E width and the size 8.5 boot in 2E width fits very well. The only issue I had with fit was that the heel was low enough that the seam between the leather and rubber sections rubbed the undersides of my ankles. I had a set of old arch supports and cut off the sections from the ball of the foot forward. The half arch supports raised the heels enough to place the seam below my ankles while preserving the width of the boots. Fit is perfect now.
Finally bought new Bean boots to replace old ones I'd had years ago. Very handy combo of rubber bottom and breathable leather upper. Definitely buy one size down; the fit was perfect. The 6 inch style breathes better than I remember my older, taller ones; the leather seems to be more flexible which I like. Minor complaint is the lacings are too long and tooooo stiff; waterproofing must make them that way.
My husband loves these boots! They replace a previous pair (years and years old!) and I insisted it was time for a new pair. He has commented numerous times how they are still the same high quality. Thank you for that, LLB!
Sizes listed fit my 10.5 foot well. Wore them 4 hours the first night I got them. I forgot I had them on
I originally purchased a 10" pair of Bean boots and took the web site advice to order at least a half size smaller. A size 10 wide boot was unfortunately just too tight and too difficult to get over my instep. When swapping the pair with Bean, I opted for the 6" high boots instead. In a 10.5 Wide fit, these work out nicely. You will still need a thick sock as the heal seems a little rough and needs to wear down a bit. But the length and width are comfortable. For snowy wet days in the city or the country, you really cannot beat this legendary boot. Thank you, L.L. Bean!
