Gavney Plain Toe

These definitely run small! I wear a 10 in just about every brand but these. I even have an older pair of J&M dress shoes I bought a their brick and mortar store that are a 9W. These 10s are so tight they’re unwearable for me. I’ll be returning this pair and reordering in size 11. They are nice looking patent leather shoes and appear to be well constructed. I ordered a pair of Florsheim patent leather shoes at the same time for comparison. J&M clearly has superior construction (genuine leather sole, all-leather interior, suede heel piece to prevent foot slippage), so I’ll be going with the J&Ms just in a larger size.

It fit to size and it feel comfortable on my feet.

This shoe has a beautiful high polish and fits true to size, 9. 5M. although I am not a big fan for the barrel - shape shoe laces, the only other detraction is the man made footbed. I give this 4 stars,

I bought these shoes to wear to black-tie events so that I would not have to spend time gloss-shining my calfskin black shoes. And I certainly did not want my brother-in-law to get away with saying "What, are those plastic?" (He used to work for a tux-rental store in Omaha, Nebraska). And the triumph of being able to say "Actually, they're real patent leather with leather soles!" - priceless, especially at the low price! My only quibble is that these J&Ms fit a bit larger than their other shoes. Mind you, that may be because they are pointier that the usual toecap J&Ms. All in all though, count me as a satisfied customer!

For my daughters wedding I bought a pair of the Gavney plain-toe dress shoes. Out of the box I was pleased so bought a second pair for my son. We both had them on for the first time for the wedding, reception and after-party, a good 12 hours and three of those with a very good dance band. Can't say enough good things about these shoes. I never thought about them all day. A fine pair of men's dress shoes. Just like my other shoes from Johnston and Murphy.

I needed a patent leather shoe for a tuxedo event quickly and checked the J&M website and found the Gavney Plain Toe. I have ordered from J&M before, so looked up the most common shoe size I had and ordered that for the Gavney. Shoe arrived and fit perfectly. I also ordered a half size larger just in case, but was able to easily return it and get a refund. Just came back from the tuxedo event and the shoe fit fantastic. Would recommend the Gavney for anyone that needs a classic patent leather shoe finish.
