One morning, our hostess served us the most amazing cereal. It was full of rolled grains, nuts, seeds and dried fruit. This was my first contact with the traditional European cereal known as muesli. A quick bit of history: muesli was invented over a century ago by a Swiss doctor who was way ahead of his time when it came to understanding the health benefits of whole grains. He made all of his patients eat muesli every day, and they loved it! I enjoyed that muesli so much that I was inspired to make my very own version of this nutritious cereal. I started with a combination of five flavorful rolled grains -oats, wheat, barley, rye and triticale Then I added sweet dates and raisins, crunchy sunflower seeds. almond slices and walnut pieces. Finally, for an extra boost of nutrition, I topped it off with a good handful of flaxseed meal. Voila! Bob's Red Mill Old Country Style Muesli was born. My favorite go to cereal. I love that the oats are not cooked and there is no salt added. You just don't need it. Also, the only oil is a tiny bit to coat the raisins. I don't see how you can go wrong with this unless you have allergies.
I tried today this old county style muesli and they are soooo delicious😋 It has sunflower seeds, raisins, chopped almonds and whole grains itself. I used milk with it, just let it stay for a few minutes and it was very tasty, I enjoyed it a lot. The package is big, I think it will last a week or two if to eat it daily, has lots of the benefits/nutrients, ingredients are all organic, NON GMO, vegan, has no artificial flavors or additives. This version is more traditional — chewy, filling, and very natural tasting. I enjoy it warm or cold depending on the weather. Excellent balance of fiber and nutrition for breakfast. It feels like real, old-fashioned food — simple and nourishing.
