Upgrade your Indian dishes

I find Pure Indian Foods products are generally excellent value for money and this organic whole brown mustard seed is no exception. I use it in Indian cooking to give a more authentic taste to recipes. Fry in ghee or clarified butter to take it to the next level; be aware though that hot seeds can pop out of the pan. Quality product which imparts a good amount of flavour. *** Please 'like' this review if U found it helpful ***

What a treasure!

I love these lovely little balls of flavor! I crisp them in a small amount of butter in a small frying pan -- just enough to make them crunchy. Then I add garlic and a little Himalayan salt. I top my cooked veggies (broccoli, asparagus, etc) with them or put them into soup, especially my bone broth that I make from scratch. What a treat! Geez! Now I’m getting hungry and have to make some for lunch!

A Flavorful Kick for Your Dishes

Brown mustard seeds are a fantastic pantry staple that bring a bold, spicy punch to any dish. I’ve been using them in various recipes, from curries and pickles to dressings and marinades, and they never disappoint. When toasted, these seeds release a rich, earthy flavor with a bit of heat that adds depth to dishes. I love the sharpness they bring, which is more intense than yellow mustard seeds, making them perfect for Indian, Middle Eastern, or even Southern cuisines. They’re also great for tempering, where you heat them in oil until they pop, infusing the oil with their spicy, tangy flavor. This technique is essential in many traditional recipes. Beyond their bold flavor, brown mustard seeds have health benefits too, including anti-inflammatory properties and being a good source of fiber and antioxidants. Overall, brown mustard seeds are a must-try for anyone who enjoys spicy, flavorful cooking. They’re versatile, aromatic, and a little goes a long way!

Made mustard!

I am happy to spend a little more to get organic mustard seeds. To make mustard, soak for a few hours to overnight, rinse, add water to submerge, add salt (2-4% of the total weight of mustard and water), and a splash of whey or brine from existing ferments. Leave somewhere cool and dark. Remember it. Then drain and blend with honey and vinegar. I am never buying mustard again!

Decent mustard seed

I bought this to make aloo gobi with. The results were good, the taste was as expected, so I feel that this spice is decent quality and worth buying. It's certainly better than another product I had picked off the supermarket shelf some time ago, which had an unpleasant musty odor. This was fine.

Quality and good taste!

Pure Indian Foods Organic Brown Mustard seeds are fresh, flavorful, and perfect for adding a punch to homemade condiments, pickles, or Indian cooking. The seeds have a robust, slightly spicy aroma, and I love that they’re organic and whole, giving full control over how to use them. Packaging is convenient and resealable, keeping the seeds fresh for longer. The only minor drawback is that grinding or toasting them takes a bit of effort, but that’s expected with whole seeds. Overall, a high-quality, versatile pantry staple.
