It's very delicate. I cook it with butter, orange zest, raisins and a pinch of cinnamon, then spread a grounded Brazil nut on top before serving (see photo). Forbidden rice is harder than white one so it does require more chewing but has a unique taste with a hint of chocolate and vanilla. It has a high quantity of anthocyanins which are antioxidants also found in blueberries. Very healthy and tasty.

Straight out of the package it looks pitch black which is not very pleasant to the eye but once cooked it becomes beautiful redish-purplish brown. Smell and taste reminds me of beetroot a little bit and is slightly bitter so I mix it 50/50 with usual brown rice. I wouldn't buy it again though as it's not organic and I somehow overlooked it upon purchase.
I love this rice. It tastes really good, has antioxidants, fiber. The only downside is long cooking time, but you get whole grain packed with nutrients.
I haven't found anything equivalent to this rice, whenever I travel to the US I come back with several bags. Other varieties of black rice I've tried are very different, this has a special flavour and texture. I try to buy the organic version when possible, but both organic and non-organic are equally good in flavour.
Absolutely tasty, with a nutty feel. Don't get put off by the black colour, rice turns an amazing purple colour when cooked. It is an amazing grain for those who wants a low glycemic index diet
Great quality and excellent taste. I treated myself to this during the pandemic for a special treat.
High quality. I enjoy mixing this with brown rice. The denser, chewier texture of the black rice contrasts nicely with the brown rice.
I throw a hand full into my homemade soups. It does add flavor. Cooks up well.
I love that this rice provides some variety in my recipes. It has more bite and texture than white or brown rice and adds some color for variety in my recipes. I enjoy the taste and it adds a hearty quality to dishes that can sometimes taste one note with softer rice.
I mix it with white rice to make purple rice.
