GABA, 250 mg, 150 Capsules

Update July 2020: I continue to use this product with success One of the few sleep products that works for a wide variety of constitutional body types but especially good for those prone to evening anxiety. Western lifestyle seems to be broadly affect GABA when there is stress. I generally take 2-3 tablets but some people may need more on certain nights. This is well within known safe dose levels. You should verify you dose with your health care provider to find "lowest effective dose." Also, it seems to be more effective if not taken every night so I suggest that you not use GABA on nights were you already feel naturally tired, calm or drowsey. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This product effectively helps me fall asleep and sleep well with a bonus: The return of early morning dreaming which I enjoy and have missed in times of poor sleep. I am a 150 pound adult and I tolerate higher doses of many supplements. Through experimentation, I have determined that 2-3 capsules about 30-minutes before sleep is optimal in times of high stress during the day. This is les than a 1 gram dose. (Doses of up to 3 grams daily are generally considered safe but you should confirm your own dose with your health care professional.) One minor drawback is that I am more drowsy when I first wake up but the trade off of good sleep is worth it for me. On less stress-filled days, I may take only 2 capsules per night. I try to take as many breaks from it as I can -- I do not take when I feel naturally drowsy already. I have compared the 1 gram dose of this brand of GABA to both a 1 gram and a 1.5 gram dose of the N_w 500 mg caps. That brand just does not have the same effect at either dose level. Neither dose the So_gar brand...though it performed slightly better. and is the next best whne this Kirkman is out of stock. Apparently best GABA is naturally derived from the fermentation process that utilizes Lactobacillus hilgardii. Only Th_rne brand openly says that they use this process. I plan to ask this about Kirkman Labs in the new "Questions" feature. I have not yet tried the Th_rne brand of GABA 250 which does use Lactobacillus hilgardii fermentation to produce the "natural GABA" that has the research to support its benefits. Unfortunately, unless the Th_rne brand allows me to consistently cut my dose by half or more, it is not affordable for my nightly use. If/when I ever try that one, I will update this review. I get this for my son to help with sleeping issues and after a few months noticed significant improvements. I like the fact they are gluten free as my son is gluten sensitive. Good quality and good value for money. This size of the bottle contains 150 capsules so go along way. The ingredients is just 250mg of pure gaba in a vegetarian capsule.
