This HOKA shoe is very cushiony! It seems it would be great for someone who is on their feet all day or with knee issues. The fabric is somewhat sheer, so good for not getting too hot. The color is bright but not too neon. I love the overall look and the support.

Elite-level shoe: I feel this shoe is more niche than the previous model, requiring more from the runner. Having said that I appreciate the higher drop in the shoe, much better upper and heel counter versus the previous model. I feel Rocket X 3 is designed for a long-stride, fast-cadence (180-190 spm), front foot-striking runner that is comfortable running in 6-minute mile paces on the road, with minimum ground contact. When running an interval workout in Rocket X 3, I felt that the previous X 2 model was more tolerant to slow recovery paces between intervals, and that Rocket X 3 makes 8-minute mile recovery paces less comfortable than they felt in the previous model. I admit I don't have the level of fitness currently that the X 3 model appears to demand. If you are a runner with long-stride but slower cadence, get the Cielo X1.

Shallow upper: Love the shoe except for the fact my shoe inserts make the shoe too shallow for my foot. There isn't enough upper shoe to put in any type of good shoe insole.

These are nice & light & make me feel fast! I wanted to love the Cielos but the shoes with the extra stack height don't seem to agree with my lower legs. I have found the Rocket Xs to be the best race shoes for me so far.
