THIS is a true loafer. Soft, soft leather (in this case, suede) and moccasin construction. I appreciate the removable insole. Zappos recommended a size 9; I ordered my usual 8.5, and they fit like a dream. Well worth the price.

The first pair of Samuel Hubbard loafers I purchased were the traditional smooth leather penny loafer called the tailored traveler in a 7.5 and they fit well but with little give and on the snug side. so when I ordered the Free Spirit model (a driving shoe) I ordered the same size. they are less structured and the suede does stretch out considerably so in order to continue wearing without walking out of them I need to wear a heavier sock. However, I like them so much I have purchased a new pair in a half size down that will allow for the obvious stretch that occurs with wear.

Nice inner cushion and high-quality leather, but too wide. The length and toe width seemed appropriate for a size 9.5, just too slippy in the heel and there were gaps on the sides of my feet, even with socks on.
