I bought these valerian capsules per the recommendation of my cousin who is a Doctor of Naturopathy. I'd approached him about my issues with Essential Tremor, anxiety, & stage fright (triggered by the tremor, a vicious cycle). I don't take it regularly, but rather save it for times when I feel I'll need it. The first time I took this product was before an audition. I took the recommended dosage one hour before the audition and the audition went amazingly well. Note that I also combined this with daily hypnosis meditations leading up to the audition. I also practiced yogic breathing, tried to remember to take deep breaths before and during the audition. I also used chamomile tea and other herbs, such as passion flower and catnip the week leading up to the audition. I could feel the valerian calming me just at the right moment, and I feel it's good to use in conjunction with the other spiritual practices and herbs mentioned. I highly recommend this product for others in similar situations.

So far this, Gaia's Valerian, is the only one that helps me sleep, and i tried a lot of supplements. i'm now looking for something else to alternate so I won't develop any resistance after long time of use.
My mum has had trouble sleeping for as long as I could remember. She started taking a cold medicine containing polaramine and chlorphenamine maleate to help her sleep. After a few years we came across many articles which said how these medicines caused dementia if taken long term. Immediately stopped that and started taking gaia valerian root. Has been working for her so far. She has upped the dose to 3 pills every night.
The only valerian root pills on this website that work, because they actually use the extract. This is therefore the same active ingredient and dosage as the pills that were prescribed by my doctor and, you know, since it's medication it has to fulfill much stricter criteria. These work the same as my medication but are half the price. Make sure they use the valerian root extract and not just "valerian root" or "whole root" -- they would be useless, the only thing that you want from the root is the part that makes you sleepy. Also just one pill is enough... at least for me. I'm not a doctor and I don't know how you personally will react to valerian root extract so don't take my word for it. But clearly there's no need (for me) to take 2 pills, which gives me twice as much mileage with one bottle. Will definitely order more.
