The instructions said to massage it into the scalp, so I did that. Perhaps I used too much, or maybe I used it incorrectly, but it became very sticky... and it was difficult to wash out even with shampoo. I think it's best to apply a small amount to the ends of your hair. The scent is a sweet coconut fragrance, which is very nice.
