This is the best rye flour I’ve ever tried, my sourdough starter only loves this one and from this brand. It comes with a great price too. I wish if it came in larger sizes though. I tried to bake with it and it gives your baked goods a twist in flavor. I would recommend that you mix it with whole wheat flour if you want to bake with it.
I used this flour to make the Perfect Loaf’s 90% rye bread recipe and it came out literally looking exactly like the recipe image. Probably the first time in my life that has happened. Rye can really vary from brand to brand but this one seems to work well for me. I’ve also made a 30% rye blend & caraway loaf many times with this and that one is actually my family’s favorite. The quantity is just enough for a few medium loaves so if you aren’t making rye every week it’s a good size. Though if you forget about it for a while, as I have done, it still smells and tastes fresh because the package is also resealable.
I use it for my sourdough baking and also for feeding my sourdough starter, the starter feeding with dark rye flour is much stronger than normal plain flour, a must have item for my baking
I love Bob’s Red Mill brand products. I like to try making different types of bread. I’ve been buying another brand at the store. Usually I just mix a little of this type of flour into sourdough starter, but I can’t wait to experiment with this flour and make actual rye bread.
