With just light gentle circles it seemed to melt away my eye makeup easily as well as the rest of my makeup on my face. You can add a little water to get a slight lather if you wish. You only have to use a pump in my opinion. My first time using it I did a few and had too much product left so a little goes a long way. It does not irritate your eyes or skin, it is very gentle. It pairs perfectly with the cleansing foam as a second step. I've used coconut oil on my face before, and this is way better. It rinses off completely and doesn't leave any greasy film behind. Their cleansing oil is great for breaking down oils, makeup, sunscreen, primer, etc. I love using oil cleansers or balms to get rid of makeup instead of wipes. Formulation-wise, this has synthetic esters which act like magnets for the oils on your face - they can melt down waterproof makeup and other products without requiring you to scrub too harshly. I use this as a first cleanse and then go in with a second cleanse after using.
