emphasized the word CONDENSED because many of the negative reviews are about the lack of taste...salt, cream, etc. If you read the label of this soup you'll see many serving suggestions. You do not have to do anything to it, and if you like it that way great, but I personally like canned food that isn't overly salted or fattened up to give it flavor, and this soup does not. This soup gives me a wonderful base of big clams...something strangely hard to find in other clam chowders. I add low fat milk, butter, and some sea salt and pepper to my PERSONAL taste
