Umeboshi Paste, Pickled Ume Plum Puree, 7 oz (200 g)

I always used to keep a package of Umeboshi Plum Paste in my supplies when I lived in the States many years ago. The residue finally dried out and hardened, probably because I didn't have it tightly sealed. I've just ordered and will transfer the contents of the plastic package into a small tightly-closed jar to be kept in the fridge for indefinite use, though refrigeration probably isn't at all necessary, given the salt content. This little gem of a product is just the ticket for certain recipes and I'm delighted to have a new supply.

I've used Eden products for years, but this is the first time I've tried their umeboshi paste. It tastes great and is clearly of good quality. The only downside to it concerns the packaging. The lid fits but not quite as firmly as I'd like, so I just have to handle it a little more carefully than usual. Admittedly, this is not cheap, but a little goes a long way.

I was looking for a miso substitute as miso is extremely high in oxalates which my husband can’t have because of kidney stones. This works perfectly!

Helped my mother very much when she had ulcers. I gave it to her together with kudzu cooked in water for 5 minutes. It saved her life. I use it every day together with tahini.

I like its sour taste. Not so salty. Basically I use it for most dishes, such as soup, salad and hot dishes. Nutritious and tasty.
