Bone broths and other products made with bone can be high in heavy metals depending on the source, so be careful. I don't know if KAL specifically measures the metals in their products. I took this for a while and coincidentally rapidly developed advanced cataracts - in the span of 1 year, and I am early 50s. I don't know if there is a connection, but it is the one thing that changed in that year, going from no cataracts to advanced. Could be my own problem with absorbing calcium and maybe proof this is a strong source! KAL has been the brand I have trusted for magnesium for years.

I really like this product. I believe bone meal powder is the best calcium supplement for me. The label does say that some of the calcium comes calcium carbonate (and doesn't say the percentage of either), hence the 4 stars instead of 5. In any case, I'm sure I'm getting the calcium as it removes the problems I have with muscles and bones that are calcium-related. It is difficult to mix with water, so I add it to coffee and use a tiny blender to mix it in - or put it in a smoothie.

I have a dog with special needs that requires a raw, home-prepared diet. I used this product for calcium in her diet, and I was quite pleased with it. I found another brand that was less expensive, so I switched to that one.
