Although the plant does produce small flowers and fruit, only the distinctive oval shaped leaves and stems are plucked for processing. Maté Constituents Maté contains vitamins (A, B1, B2, C and E), mineral salts, 15 amino acids and high levels of antioxidants. Its chemical constituents also include alkaloids (such as caffeine). Flavor Profile Toasty, smooth and full-bodied with light cacao taste. Will provide at least 3-4 infusions. Gourd & Bombilla The Maté Gourd and Bombilla are traditional vessels used for enjoying Yerba Maté. I have to admit I drink Yerbe Mate for the health benefits - with so much caffeine it is very good as a boost and helps if you are fasting or eating light. It has so many health benefits and great nutrition.
I am a big fan of the Tao of tea and have maybe 50 of their product range including all the Yerbe Mate's ............ but my favourite of all yerbe Mates has to be the Mate Factor organic Green Yerbe Mate which is just so fresh.
But I think each of the Tao of Tao Yerbe Mates have different tastes and personalities so I try and appreciate them all and enjoy a different one each day.

The quality of this tea is excellent and the packaging is really nice. I hadn't tried mate before so I took advantage of a sale to give it a try. I find it a little fussy to make, and I guess I prefer my other hot beverages more. It is nice with half and half, but we are trying to cut back on dairy and I don't like it much with soy milk. If you already love mate, this is an excellent choice

I wouldn't say the taste is that great but it is definitely good and interesting, something different for a regular mate drinker. It can be that this kind of mate that has a bitter cocoa-kind of taste -- a bit closer to coffee -- can be the way for coffee drinkers to the world of yerba mate if they find the green mate too bitter, green or otherwise strange. I will also try this when brewed in a regular tea cup in a sieve and add milk.
