100% Pure Trehalose, a Multi-Functional sugar Quick-Energy Disaccharide Naturally Occurring in Fungi and Plants May be Used in Cooking and Baking to Replace Sugar What if we could sweeten foods and beverages without sucrose (table sugar) and without chemical sugar substitutes (like aspartame or sucralose)? What if there was a sugar that not only sweetens but enhances flavor? And what if that sugar was actually good for you? Introducing trehalose (tree-UH-lowz), a sugar product now available for home use for the first time since its discovery over 175 years ago. Trehalose is sweet and energizing! This multi-functional sugar is a disaccharide consisting of two glucose molecules, and when metabolized, it releases both molecules—twice the glucose other forms of stored sugar release. This translates into quick energy. Sometimes trehalose is referred to as "mushroom sugar" because it is found in significant amounts in certain mushrooms. But the compound appears also in fungi like yeast, in seeds, in algae and in "resurrection plants"—desert plants that survive long periods of drought yet spring to life when provided moisture. As a sweetener, trehalose does not interfere with natural flavors and does not produce a rapid rise in blood glucose seen with sucrose and other sugars. The enzyme that digests trehalose is found primarily in the small intestine, which means it is not fully metabolized until 2 or 3 hours after digestion. This slow process may also be the key to sustained energy trehalose appears to offer.

Plasticy smell, and it's still essentially sugar

There is a strong smell of plastic, it's from the container itself. I've decanted to a glass jar, but the smell remains. And Trehalose is one of the most disappointing sweeteners I've tried. Barely 40% as sweet as sugar, so you have to put over twice the equivalent amount to taste anything, and it still is metabolized into Glucose in the intestines, just slower than pure glucose itself. Worsened bloating as a result. Not recommended.

Swanson Trehalose has become my favorite natural sweetener. Its mild sweetness is perfect for replacing sugar in recipes without overpowering flavors. I've found it to be a healthier alternative that works wonders in baking and beverages, delivering sweetness with fewer calories. A great addition to any kitchen for those seeking a better sugar substitute!

I am buying it again.

I bought it as I read a study it work for the brain, FTD, but it is not a medical advice. I have ADHD and I am burnout. I used it now and then. Very little. Did not uset my stomach and I might have felt a slight better mood after eating it. May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you for having this product!

Pricey but worth it!

In my opinion, trehalose is the holy grail of sugar substitutes. Not quite as sweet, does contain a few calories, but not as much as sugar, and you can cook and bake with it with no impact on the end product. I used it recently to make cranberry sauce from frozen cranberries. Also used in beverages to lightly sweeten without any aftertaste. Love it!

Doesn't spike my blood glucose

I can't stand erythritol, or any blend that uses it! Trehalose does not taste funny nor have a weird aftertaste or cooling sensation in the mouth. It is not sickly sweet. I use this as apart of my medley of alternative sweeteners I use while making the occasional low carb sweet. It adds bulk to some baked goods that need bulk and it pairs well with liquid monk fruit and liquid stevia. I do not get any stomach upset from this. I have also mitigated stomach upset and funny aftertaste since I started using my own blend of alternative sweeteners in things instead of just one.

My order came earlier than expected and the trehalose seems to be good quality. I tried it in coffee and it didnt taste like much. In terms of health benefits I cant say much however because I havent used it long enough.
