These are expensive but worth the price especially if you can catch them on sale. The quality and flavor are excellent. And the size of the fillets are great. The size of the package is bigger than most so that helps offset the price. Either way, you are definitely getting what you pay for.
I tried a few brands of canned mackerel, both in oil and in water. The ones in oil tend to taste better and have better texture, but I was pleasantly surprised to find this one in water and is comparable. The smokiness makes this different and special. Ultimately I prefer canned fish in water, rather than oil, because BPA in the lining of the tin cans is more dissolvable in oil than water, according to a study I came across.
I love these, they are so tasty and easy to use. I like having them in the cupboard for when I need something simple and quick.
Absolutely perfect on bread and pasta! Bar Harbour has good quality tinned fish. The taste is lightly smoky and I love to use the leftover gravy on my pasta.

This mackerel is firm, flaky, and has just the right amount of natural smoke. Not overly salty, and no bones. Excellent straight from the tin or stirred into a grain bowl.
